joshuah whittinghill

joshuah began his journey through higher education by being on academic probation for four years. After receiving a letter of disqualification from Chico State, his African American Music professor granted him a second chance and the opportunity to turn things around. From that point, joshuah went on to earn his bachelor's degree in music, a master's in English, as well as one in education all from Chico State, which he followed up by earning his doctorate in educational leadership from UC, Davis. During the past 20 years he has been fortunate to have served students in various roles at Chico State: academic advisor, assessment coordinator for the Educational Opportunity Program, coordinator for the campus' writing center and supplemental instruction program, consultant to faculty for the First Year Experience program and currently he is one of five Information Technology Consultants in the Teaching & Learning Program, and a lecturer in the department of Multicultural Gender Studies. His passion for podcasts led him (with input and encouragement from Bonni) to develop and be a co-host for the First Generation - One of Many podcast. In and out of the classroom, joshuah's research interests are centered around equity, diversity, and inclusion, first-generation college students, social and emotional learning, and people's relationships with music. As a result, he has developed Music for Our Souls, a workshop that helps connect people’s music listening to their social and emotional growth. joshuah would not be able to do any of his work or follow any of his dreams if it wasn’t for the support and encouragement from his wife of 20 years and their two amazing and understanding kids.
