Dr. Antija Allen is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Pellissippi State Community College with nearly two decades of experience as an educator. She has served on several committees including Online Learning and Faculty Development. Antija championed Pellissippi Academy’s Emotional Intelligence cohort successfully for 2 years and was the 2019-2021 Pellissippi Academic Center for Excellence Faculty Fellow for First-Year Experience where she led faculty development around Open Educational Resources. Dr. Allen is the Owner of Allen Ivy Prep Consulting, which specializes in career coaching and professional development for higher ed job seekers. In the past, she acted as senior project staff and primary curriculum designer/developer on adult education/training teams that supported New York Human Resource Administration policy initiatives at the Professional Development Program. She has research expertise and has been a Research Scientist at NYU and a Project Coordinator at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Allen is certified in online teaching and DEI with a rich history of developing and facilitating engaging faculty/professional development sessions. In 2021 Antija was selected by the Tennessee Board of Regents to be a Maxine Smith fellow; her cohort is developing a toolkit for Black male success in higher education. Antija’s recent publications include a chapter on Academic Freedom in Classroom Discussions and an upcoming book, We’re Not OK: Black Faculty Experiences and Higher Education Strategies. The May 2022 Cambridge University Press publication discusses mental health, retention, and fostering an inclusive environment for Black faculty. She earned her BA in Psychology from Neumann University, MA in Psychology from Pepperdine University, and EdD in Adult Learning & Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests include: OER, faculty retention, DEI, faculty development, online teaching, and student engagement.
