Alan Levine

Alan Levine is recognized for applying new technologies to education. A pioneer on the web in the 1990s and an early proponent of blogs and RSS, Alan shares his ideas and discoveries at CogDogBlog. Among his recent interests are new forms of web storytelling and creativity (including 50+ Web 2.0 Ways To Tell a Story, pechaflickr, and the StoryBox), leading and teaching the open digital storytelling class, ds106, teaching and building sites for connected courses like Networked Narratives, and unleasing these strange things called SPLOTs.
He typically consults with higher educational institutions on digital technologies and the affordances of the open web, working with a variety of higher education institutions and organizations such as Coventry University, the University of Guadalajara, Virginia Commonwealth University, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, eCampus Ontario, The Open University, Digital Media Hub, and Mozilla. Additionally, he develops open web-based tools shared openly on Github. Sometimes people even invite him to visit to do keynotes and workshops. Alan's recent major projects included facilitating/encouraging faculty participating eCampus Ontario Extend project, building and co-leading the Mural UDG project, and adjunct teaching in at Kean University. In 2015 and 2016 he developed the platform and faciliated activities (on-site and online) for the UDG Agora Project, a faculty development effort for almost 400 professors at the University of Guadalajara managed by the Justice Institute for British Columbia. He has also been an instructional technology specialist at the University of Mary Washington, following leadership positions at the New Media Consortium and the Maricopa Community Colleges. Alan's personal interests include digital photography, bending WordPress to his whims, and randomly dipping into the infinite rivers of the internet.
