Jasper is an Assistant Professor in Digital Literacies and Pedagogies at Durham University, UK.
Prior to joining Durham, Jasper held senior leadership positions as the Head of Pre-University at British University Vietnam and Head of the Language School at James Cook University Singapore.
Aside from academic leadership, Jasper has taught a wide variety of subjects, including educational research methods, sociology and anthropology, English language education, and training in-service teachers on technology use.
Jasper's early studies in corpus linguistics and discourse analysis, along with his experience as an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teacher, led to a natural interest in language applications such as Automated Paraphrasing Tools (APTs) and Digital Writing Assistants (DWAs). Since 2022, he has focused more fully on the implications of Generative AI (GenAI) in educational settings and new methods of fostering AI literacy in higher education.
