Don Saucier

Donald A. Saucier, Ph.D. (2001, University of Vermont), is a Professor of Psychological Sciences and a University Distinguished Teaching Scholar at Kansas State University.  He is a Fellow of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP), the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI), the Society for Experimental Social Psychology (SESP), and the Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA).  His research examines the factors that contribute to expressions of antisocial and prosocial behavior, and his teaching philosophy focuses on maximizing the levels of both teacher and student engagement in the classroom.  He teaches a broad range of undergraduate and graduate classes, from large sections of General Psychology to small classes in Advanced Psychological Research Methods.  His awards include the Putting Students First Award for Outstanding Service to Students, the University Distinguished Faculty Award for Mentoring of Undergraduate Students in Research, and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.  His teaching philosophy emphasizes intrinsic motivation as the key to maximizing both student and teacher motivation through "trickle-down engagement."  His teaching philosophy is highlighted on a YouTube channel he and his students launched in January 2019 called "Engage the Sage" (the welcome video can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w334NU2gcOo&t=2s).
